AFDW commander attends Selva retirement

Air Force District of Washington Commander Maj. Gen. Ricky N. Rupp attended the retirement ceremony honoring the nation's second highest-ranking military officer, United States Air Force Gen. Paul J. Selva, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, at Joint Base Andrews Hangar 3 July 31.

Hosting the ceremony was U.S. Marine Corps Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, 19th Chairman of the The Joint Staff. Selva, the 10th Vice Chairman, retires from the Air Force after more than 39 years of honorable service.

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is the principal military adviser to the President, Secretary of Defense, and the National Security Council, however, all JCS members are by law military advisers, and they may respond to a request or voluntarily submit, through the Chairman, advice or opinions to the President, the Secretary of Defense, or NSC.
